Course Details:
Students will be required to complete the online MSF eCourse which includes topics on selecting proper riding gear, preparing to ride, motorcycle controls, pre-ride inspection, defensive riding strategies, positioning, and how to handle a variety of riding situations.During the five (5) hours of classroom the student will discuss various topics including situational awareness, risk reduction, traffic “traps”, driving tendencies, perception, mental processing, visual acuity and reaction time. During the course a student will learn the “SEE” principle which will be helpful when identifying traffic controls / roadway features, highway users, surface conditions and escape paths.
During the ten (10) hours of riding the student will become familiar with the motorcycle and will start off learning the friction zone, straight-line riding, clutch-throttle control, turning, shifting and stopping. The student will gradually progress to cornering and cornering judgement, swerving, maximum effective braking techniques, obstacle avoidance and maneuvers. Throughout the course the instructors will evaluate and coach each rider’s performance.
There is a knowledge test with the online classroom course and a riding skills test at the end of the range sessions. (MD requires a separate in-person knowledge test).
Motorcycles are available for use and are included in the course fee. Motorcycles used in the course typically have engine displacements of 250cc.
Riders must have the appropriate riding gear, which includes an open-face / three-quarter or full-face DOT certified helmet, eye protection, long sleeve shirt or jacket, full-fingered gloves, long pants (no ripped jeans, sweat pants or other soft material) and sturdy over-the-ankle footwear.
There is no guarantee that an individual enrolling in this course will pass, or get their license.
